You are here: Home / Beginner Info / How to Disable a Golf Cart Reverse/Backup Buzzer (EZGO, Club Car, Yamaha)
The reverse/backup buzzer on a golf cart helps to protect others when you're on the golf cart.
However, if you're using a cart on your property or even on the road, you probably don't need these buzzers.
If they are annoying you, it is possible to disconnect them reasonably quickly.
However, you need to make sure that you pay attention to the cart brand.
Step One: Locate the Buzzer
The trickiest part of this process is knowing exactly where the buzzer is located in your golf cart.
For example, this location may vary depending on the brand of cart that you drive.
In an EZGO cart, it is usually located behind the key switch panel. (Video below)
This panel is quite easy to access and shouldn't take a lot of work to find.
In other carts, this process may be slightly more complicated than you'd expect.
For instance, a Club Car Golf Cart has a switch in a similar place but is often covered more heavily than on the EZGO Cart.
The buzzer itself is usually located towards the back of the cart because it produces a louder volume in this spot.
Typically, you find it either behind the seat in most carriages or hanging off the side.
Make sure to check your manual to ensure you find it quickly enough.
And on a Yamaha Golf Cart, you can usually find almost all of your backup alarm elements behind the seat of your cart. (video below)
As a result, you shouldn't have as hard of a time finding them as you may in others.
Typically, most golf cart reverse buzzers have different wire colors that are quite easy to understand.
Make sure to take a look at these to ensure that you don't make any mistakes when cutting.
Protip: Typically, your reverse buzzer is going to have orange and white wires connecting it to the electrical source on your cart.
Once you cut these wires, most of the time, your buzzer will stop working.
However, the Yamaha buzzer often has green and black wires that you need to cut.
As a result, it is essential to check your electrical diagrams on your cart to avoid any issue.
Step Two: Opening Up the Switch
Although it is good to know where your buzzer is located on your cart, you usually have to worry more about the switch than you do the bell.
Accessing it is relatively simple and requires you to have a drill, the properly-sized drill bit, some screws, and a screwdriver.
Now, find the key and direction switch plate on the cart body and use the drill to remove the plastic rivets holding it down.
Carefully remove the plate at this point and look for the switch for the reverse buzzer.
You may see the bell in here, as it is made out of black plastic and looks a bit like a speaker.
Once you find the buzzer, look for the orange wire and remove or cut it.
You can then replace the switch at this point by using the screwdriver to hold the plate back into place where the rivets once existed.
Note that this is primarily the method that you use for EZGO Carts.
Though it can be adapted to other carts, there are a few problems that may pop up if you aren't careful.
For example, you may disconnect the wrong wire on a Club Cart if you aren't careful.
This wire, too, is orange but also has white as well.
So pay attention to the proper colors before you cut or carefully remove the cable.
Protip: Don't cut the wire away from the buzzer but carefully unwrap it and then cover it in electrical tape.
This electrical tape helps to prevent any sparking that may occur in your engine.
Now, if you want to reconnect your buzzer for any reason – such as trying to sell it to another driver – you can remove the electrical tape and reconnect the wire.
In this way, your disconnection isn't as permanent as just cutting the cable and letting it hang loose.

Step Three: Working With a Yamaha Golf Cart
If you have a Yamaha cart, you need to use the process below and ignore step two entirely.
Start by removing the cup holder from your seat and then taking the whole seat off of the cart.
At this point, you should find the black alarm speaker underneath the seat.
Look for the green and black wire if you need help.
Now, you can disconnect the green and black switch to achieve the effect that you want.
Like with previous models, you can wrap this wire in electrical tape to prevent any damage and ensure that you can reconnect the cord later if you desire.
